When should you rent a holiday home in West Jutland? Book before the best weeks are gone

Renting a holiday home by the North Sea is a fixed summer tradition for thousands of Danish and German families. But there is one thing many people discover too late: the best homes and the most sought-after weeks are snapped up long before summer. If you want a home close to the beach, with the right number of bedrooms and in the week that fits the school holidays, it is all about being early.

When is the high season?

High season on the Jutland west coast is July and early August, roughly weeks 27 to 32, when both Danish and German school holidays overlap. These are the weeks with the highest demand, the highest prices and the fastest-vanishing good homes. Weeks 29 and 30, in mid July, are almost always the first to book out. If your holiday is tied to those weeks, plan to book early.

Why you should book well ahead

Many regular guests book the same home year after year, often the moment they head home from their last stay. That means the most popular homes can be taken almost a year in advance. The longer you wait, the more the choice shrinks, until only the most expensive or the least attractive homes are left for high season. Planning early is not just about getting a home, it is about getting the right one.

How far ahead should you book?

A good rule of thumb: for high season (July and August) book six to twelve months ahead, ideally the winter before. If you want a specific home or a specific week, the sooner the better. For the shoulder season and outside the school holidays there is often space a few months or even weeks before, but the very best homes still go first. Book as soon as your holiday dates are set.

Consider the shoulder season

If you are flexible, there are hidden gems outside high season. May and June bring light evenings, quiet beaches and lower prices, and the weather can be glorious. September is still mild, and the autumn break in week 42 is a classic with plenty for families to do. Outside the busiest weeks you often get a better home for your money and a coast that feels more like your own.

Checklist when you book

Whenever you book, check the essentials before you say yes: location and distance to the beach and shops, the number of bedrooms and beds, what is included (linen, final cleaning, electricity and water), and the changeover day and check-in and check-out times. Read the reviews, and look especially for whether the home comes across as clean and well kept. A home described thoroughly with good photos is usually well looked after too.

For owners: the other side of the table

If you are a holiday-home owner yourself, the same principle applies in reverse: guests book early, so your home has to be ready and inviting when the season opens. A clean, fresh-smelling home with sharp photos books better and earns better reviews. It is a good idea to have the spring preparation and deep cleaning done before the first guests arrive, and to have the changeover cleaning sorted throughout high season. Book that kind of thing early, just as guests book the home early.

At IT IS DONE we are the local team that keeps the holiday homes along the coast guest-ready all season. We handle changeovers between guests, deep cleaning before and after the season and the thorough spring preparation, so your home looks its best from the very first booking.
